True Guidance
One day when I was very young my Master and I were going out on field training. We were walking to a very beautiful place that had a nice stream. The stream had lots of slick rocks that were fun for me to play on. I started running towards the rocks to play when my Senior started screaming for me to stop. He was trying to stop me so I wouldn’t hurt myself. I ignored him and kept running towards the rocks. Then my Master yelled for me to come and help him across the rocks. I immediately stopped and went to help my Master cross the rocks. I felt really good about being able to help him. A couple of days later I saw my Master doing jumping turn around kicks. I thought to myself, why would my Master need help crossing the stream when he is so good and coordinated. Later in my life I realized that my Master was showing humility in order to guide me safely through life. The same philosophy applies if a small family member were to kick you in the leg. You would not kick them back, instead you would show humility and laugh it off.– Grandmaster Yi.
