The martial artist practicing Tukong Moosul is trained in four areas, based upon the distance theory. The four areas include Throwing (leverage techniques), Punching (hand techniques), Kicking (foot techniques), and Weapons (extended body techniques).

All sparring and attack situations need distance theory. Each of the four applications has a designated process for effectiveness. To illustrate: (1) someone is close to you and grabs you, you must use throwing techniques; (2) a bit further apart, but within arms' reach, you must use punching techniques; (3) further than arms' reach, you must use kicking techniques and; (4) still even further out of physical reach, you must use weapons techniques. For instance, on someone who is physically close to you, a gun is more effective than a cannon. Yet at a very far distance, a cannon becomes much more effective. It is not the power of the technique but rather the distance that makes it effective. One must learn to choose the right principle to apply to each situation for maximum effectiveness. It is not uncommon when learning these principles to get them confused.

For example, an opponent/attacker is close to your body. You must decide to use either a kicking (foot) or a punching (hand) technique. It is necessary for you to determine what amount of space is in the distance between you and the attacker. Once you have learned, understood, and practiced these techniques, you will know that the punching or kicking technique is incorrect for this positioning. The most effective response would be throwing (leverage technique) or grabbing, and using one's elbows or knees. Similarly, if an opponent/attacker is out of reach where you cannot touch him with your hands, a kicking or weapon technique would be most effective based on the amount of space in the distance.

Each technique has its individual importance for proper application and effectiveness. None of the four techniques is any better or stronger than the other. When you apply the distance theory properly for each technique, you will receive the ultimate efficiency and power needed at any given distance.
